From the Heart- Top 5 Medical Tools I Make Sure to Have With Me When I Travel

Hi everyone!  So since I'm going to Boston, I want to share about what medical tools I make sure to pack with me when I travel.  Let me know what you guys pack!

1.  Medications

This is super important to pack medications.  I have two main medications that I take daily:  Metoprolol tartate and asprin.  I take the metroprolol tartate to lower my heart rate to help avoid another atrial tachychardia episode.  I take the asprin to thin my blood, making it easier for my heart to pump because I have HLHS.

A medication that I don't take regularly but take when I travel is melatonin, which is a natural sleep aid.  This is really helpful for me when I travel, since I am in a new place and if I am not travelling within the state, helps me deal with jet lag.

2.  Medical Bracelet

This is really important to wear pretty much at all times should a medical emergency occur.  My medical bracelet basically says what is most important about my body that anyone should know in case they need to provide emergency care.  Here's what my medical bracelet says:  Pacemaker, HLHS, and fontan procedure.

3.  Medical Card

Basically, a medical card has important information on it about you in case of emergency.  For example, my medical card says that I have a pacemaker and how to contact Medtronic.  I don't usually keep it on me; usually my mom has it on her because first of all, I am forgetful and second of all, I don't really need it on me because of my medical bracelet.  I use my medical card to show security personnell that I have a pacemaker and therefore cannot go through the medal detector.

4.  Fitbit

This is not a sponsored post, but having a device that tracks my heart rate is really helpful.  This is so that I know if my heart rate gets too high (I don't have to worry about it getting too low because my pacemaker will kick in and pace me when that happens).

5.  Compression Stockings

Because of my poorer circulation, compression stockings are a great tool to keep the blood flowing whether I am sitting on a plane or on my feet all day on adventures!
